pick up car rental at Gare Montparnasse or Place d'Italie?

We are renting a car to head South. The car rental office at Gare Montparnasse is open til 10pm, the office at Place d%26#39;Italie is open only til 7pm, (which may be too early for our return) Which is more convenient? (we have not been to Paris since 1980 as back-packers- never driven there, but feel OK about driving in big cities).

Place d%26#39;Italie [I assume Hertz] is the easiest, because it is a straight shot to the highway at the Porte d%26#39;Italie. Most if not all agencies have some means of rerturning a car and dropping off keys after hours.
