Where to stay in the 6th/near the river or Luxembourg?

I am looking at vacation rentals for my trip in July and would like to stay in the 6th. I%26#39;m trying to decide what location is better, near the river or the gardens at Luxembourg. What has been your experience? Also, if I do stay near Luxembourg, how far of a walk is it to the Seine?

Both are nice. I kind of prefer near the river just because it puts you within easy walking distance to so many places. If you have small children (or even up to middle school age!), you might prefer to be near the Luxembourg Gardens, which is such a great playground for children and place of relaxation for adults.

From the northern end of the Luxembourg Garden to the Seine is a 10-15 minute walk, I%26#39;d say.
