Cheap Passenger Ferry Tickets (no car)

There was a reference in a previous post to cheap day trip tickets (by foot). Where can you get these? I%26#39;m coming up with around 24 pounds return per person. Is this considered cheap? There are six of us and we want to park our car in Dover. Any suggestions on cheaper alternatives appreciated!

There are only 2 operators on the Dover Calais route, SeaFrance %26amp; P%26amp;O Ferries and yes this price is about correct. If you add £15 a day to park your car at Dover on top of your £24 x 6 it may be chaper to take the car to France!!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it%26#39;s only about 70 pounds return to take the car with us (for all of us, on the ferry, including the car). But, the rental car company (we%26#39;re planning to rent from either Avis or Alamo) charges about 75 pounds to go to the continent with our car. Also, my husband wants to switch the rental to a left hand drive vehicle. By the way, we are going to be in France for around five days. Any further suggestions?

I dont know why the front page is showing £9 each way, then when you get a quote it%26#39;s £8 return, but who%26#39;s complaining?

£4 each way will be a winter promo you will not get prices like that during the summer, you might look at Hertz they offer (offered) a system called Le Swap (orininal name) wherby you could rent a UK vehicle drive it through the tunnel and swap it at the French end, it wasn%26#39;t cheap but may be an alternative?

We actually did the Hertz Le Swap in 1999 and it worked out great. Unfortunately, they no longer offer it. We would definitely do that - do you know of any other Le Swap type programs? I%26#39;ve inquired at Avis and Alamo already and they do not offer anything like that.

Just a follow-up. I ended up buying airline tickets through Ryanair%26#39;s latest 1p sale. Even with all their tacked on %26quot;handling fees%26quot;, it%26#39;s still cheaper getting to France that way than taking the ferry (not to mention paying to park the car in Dover)!
