Canal trip suggestions for Canal Du Midi

Hi all,

A group of four of us (two couples in total) are planning a week-long self-guided tour of the Canal Du Midi, probably in April or May. Thinking of travelling west to east, from Toulouse. Just wondering whether anyone had any advice about where to stay (or not to stay) and also if there are any boat hire companies people could recommend or warn against.
