I%26#39;ve booked a train to Bourg and I want to get to Chamonix. What%26#39;s the best way of travelling the missing section? Anyone?

Hi,
Assuming taxis are out of the question, in winter I expect you%26#39;d get a coach to Geneva airport and then get a coach to Chamonix. In summer it would probably be to hire a car and go over the top via La Rosiere, into Italy and through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
It%26#39;s a mission either way I%26#39;m afraid.
Cheers,
Matt

I thought it would be closer than Chambery - would I be better off getting a taxi from there? Since I go through there on my way. My other option is hitching...

You might have more options from Chambery generally - the problem with going to Bourg is you have to %26#39;back out%26#39; to at least Albertville before you can get around the mountains.
You might be able to find a taxi to take you, but I think it%26#39;s unusual to go from Chambery to Chamonix and it%26#39;s probably going to be several hundred Euros.
Alternatively, you might be able to get a train, but it%26#39;s tricky to see exactly how it would work - you could try calling raileurope or looking at seat61 or something and seeing what%26#39;s what. I imagine you%26#39;d be looking at 1 or 2 changes and 4 or 5 hours in all.
Cheers,
Matt

P.s.
http://www.altibus.com is probably the best place to go for help if you end up using coaches - it looks as if you could get a coach from Chambery, Moutiers or Bourg into Geneva coach station, then back out to Chamonix if the times match up. I%26#39;m not sure how close the bus station is to the train station in Chambery, but they%26#39;re pretty walkable in Moutiers and Bourg.
It might be possible from Albertville as well but I didn%26#39;t check - not sure if the train would stop there anyway.
Cheers,
M

Thanks for all the help. I%26#39;m seriously considering staying in Bourg instead of going to Chamonix now. I%26#39;ll think about it more carefully before I book the ticket next time.
