guided walking tours

Do you have a suggestion on guided walking tours? Searched the forum and came up w/ Paris Walks. Any others out there that you would recommend? Would like to do a %26quot;highlights tour%26quot; and also the Louvre, etc. Have done the self-tours and probably will in Paris, but I found it very informative to take tours while in other cities, such as Florence, Rome, etc. Most I%26#39;ve taken our given by history and/or art majors that moonlight for a company. Thanks!

Hi neighbor!

You may want to consider %26quot;New Paris Tours%26quot; http://www.newparistours.com

This is a free Paris walk around the center. They leave at 11am and 1pm and it%26#39;s about 3.5 hours. I have not done this, so I can%26#39;t really tell you what it%26#39;s like, but others have had good things to say. And you can%26#39;t beat free!

Enjoy your trip!

I second New Paris Tours - they are great for giving you an overview of the major historical monuments. Paris Walks are also very good.

Not sure about tours of the Louvre - I know they offer several tours, which you can check out here: louvre.fr/llv/activite/liste_evenements.jsp…

When I was in Paris recently, I used the walking tour in the Rick Steves guidebook, which covers the highlights - you can probably get similar things in other books or off the net as well.

Thanks, neighbor!

Has anyone used ClassicWalksParis? Seem to have several tours, and a lot of %26quot;history%26quot; tours. I, too, have used RS for walks, especially at night after dinner. Loved his walk near the Pantheon in Rome. Didn%26#39;t hurt that it went past the best gellato in the city!

I first went on the ClassicWalks WWII Walk and it was extremely illuminating about the ordeal suffered by Paris inhabitants during the occupation, the multiple Resistence groups fighting underground, and the week-long battle in the streets of Paris culminating in the Liberation on Aug 25, 1944.

As a result of that tour, I later visited the (free) Musee` Jean Moulin - Liberation of Paris at the Jardins du Atlantique at the Gare Montparnasse which is remarkable and a must for any WWII history enthusiast.

Later, on other visits, I%26#39;ve gone on the Latin Quarter walk as well as the Montmarte walk. Both were interesting and a fine over-view of the area and the main sites, which folks can then visit more extensively, according to their particular interests.

Did Classic walks Montmartre Walk in Oct w/ Fred and Paris Walks Marais w/Oriel. Both were enjoyable . Lots of tidbits you don%26#39;t get in guide books and faster than stumbling through an area w/ book in hand. Also I leave time for just wandering on my own.

Which company did you enjoy more, Paris Walks or ClassicWalksParis? Did one seem more knowledgeable and/or have better tours in your opinion?

Liked them both. The Montmartre walk took us up the back way(as opposed to starting at funicular and Sacre Coeur) and there was a wine festival going on so it was VERY crowded. He was savvy enough to take detours to avoid crowd yet show us the %26quot;highlights%26quot; and little known spots too. Fred was an American.

Oriel is one of the owners of Paris walks. Little older British lady. She had many interesting stories of the inhabitants of the homes we saw and lots of architectural info too.

The pace of both was brisk but I never felt rushed.

I am returning in Aug and will probably do Classics WWII walk.
