Paris-Vincennes - How convenient to stay in?

I have an opportunity to use a timeshare accomodation in Vincennes (club sunterra at royal regency). My info says that metro and RER are within easy walking distance. I like to stay centrally when possible, because I%26#39;d rather spend my time wandering and seeing the sights than on the train, but I don%26#39;t want to let a great chance to get to Paris go by. What I%26#39;m wondering is approximately how long it would take from this location on the metro to get to attractions in Paris, for example, The Louvre, or Notre Dame. The exact address is 69-71 rue defrance, vincennes, 94300 if that helps. thanks!

I’ve had a look at the local public transport website (www.ratp.fr). It’s a handy site because on the home page you can type in your home address, your destination and your departure date/time, and it’ll then give you the quickest route.

From my quick look, it seems you’ll have a 5-minute bus ride to (Bus 118), then a 5 minute walk to the closest metro station (Chateau de Vincennes). It%26#39;s metro line no. 1 which is a good one as it cuts right through the heart of Paris. It is a long line, though! From Chateau de Vincennes to the Champs Elysées, you%26#39;ll need a good 25 minutes!

Happy travels!

It doesn%26#39;t seem like it would be too bad... it is a long walk to the metro (Chateau de Vincennes line 1) or RER-A, about a kilometer... you can evidently take a bus to the RER, and all together it would take 20-30 minutes to get to Chatelet, for example. Not bad if your timeshare deal is a good one.

CLUB SUNTERRA at ROYAL REGENCY 69-71 rue Defrance,, Vincennes, 94300, Metro: CHATEAU de VINCENNES #1 ligne %26amp; RER: VINCENNES %26#39;A%26#39; ligne.

This address will be located approx 1/2-3/4 mile from the nearest Metro station-CHATEAU de VINCENNES (end-of-the-ligne for the #1 Metro ligne) As has been noted, there is a stop for the #118 public bus located a couple of blocks west of the address (at the intersections of rue Defrance/rue de Fontenay %26amp; Blvd. de la Liberation) which will take you to one of the rue de Paris entrances to the CHATEAU de VINCENNES Metro station. This same bus will also take to to within a couple of blocks of the VINCENNES RER station (for the %26#39;A%26#39; ligne).

The %26#39;good news%26#39; is that once at the CHATEAU de VINCENNES station, there will be a train every 3-6 minutes through most of the day and evening (trains begin running at 05:30 AM and stop at approx. 00:45 (12:45 AM). The train travel time from CHATEAU de VINCENNES will be 12 mins. to LOUVRE-RIVOLI (stop for Musée du Louvre) and 21 mins. to CHARLES deGAULLE-ÉTOLIE (stop for Arc de Triomphe). The #1 Metro ligne is the main east-west ligne and will have connecting stations along the way for many other Metro and RER lignes and public bus routes onward to %26#39;the rest of Paris%26#39;.

If I have one suggestion to offer, it is that in making Metro %26#39;connections%26#39; to other locations in Paris, that you try to %26#39;..plan..%26#39; your routes to avoid the sprawling (some 20-24 square blocks underground) CHATELET Metro station if possible/convenient. At first glance the station appears convenient, with five(5) different Metro lignes and three(3) different RER lignes connecting here---but given the sheer size of the station, it can easily take on %26#39;..mice-in-a-maze..%26#39;complexities.

Kevin-what you said about the Chatelet metro stop is true except if you are changing from line 1 to line 4 or 14. These are both a short walk to connect. Anything else is not fun. I live near Chateau Vincennes so am taking this route all of the time. Line 1 is great for going east to west in Paris.

To cut a long story short, you certainly won%26#39;t feel in the heart of things. Vincennes is nice enough, but definitely in the burbs. Going to any attraction in central Paris means a good 40 mn of walking/waiting for the not so frequent suburban bus/ taking the métro or RER. These timeshare locations are never very convenient in European cities.

I would say that it is really not convenient to the center of Paris. But if that is the only option for you then by all means stay there at the time share. I think it took me about 40 minutes ( walk and wait and sit time)to get to and from the center of Paris. ( My sister has Sunterra Time Share also.) Going back and forth during the day would be inconvenient.

The town of Vincennes is a very nice town. It has wonderful people! If I could I would get an apt to stay long term there. I love that liyyle town so much. The Chateaux is very nice as well as the park.

I do not think I would give up the chance to go to Paris.

Hello MCW,

While you might be a ways from the big tourist sites of Paris, I agree that the area is very nice. Some nice restaurants, wonderful parks and friendly people.

You might find a local bus convenient to get into town too, and you can at least see the city. The 86 from the Chateau Vincennes area will take you to Port Doree (or farther in) where you can get a metro. If you like riding buses switch at place Felix Eboe (M. Daumesnil) and take the 29 down through Bastille, the Marais, to the opera Garnier (ending at gare St.Lazare) and the area of the right bank. It could take you longer than metros, depending on the traffic, or it might not and the view is so much better...........

I meant connect to the 46 bus........sorry for the typo.

|||

Gads..... still wrong. Take the 46 bus into either a metro station or change to the 29 bus.......Must be the holidays.......

NOt at all central, but not a bad area to be in. A good deal is a good deal. Do this this time and figure out whre you would want to stay on your next trip!
