Moulin Rouge

Hoping to visit Paris in June. Friends say the Moulin Rouge is a must. What does anyone think?

Is it worth it? Is it worth having a meal as well as the show?

I am interested in the answers to this post also.

I%26#39;m thinking of doing the dinner at the Eiffel tower, then the Seine cruise, then the Moulin show. I know the tours are very expensive.

If you tap in %26#39;Moulin Rouge%26#39; in the search button you%26#39;ll see the countless opinions that people have given about this. I think the consensus would be that the Moulin Rouge is most certainly not a %26#39;must%26#39;, but if you want to see it (and you can afford it!) then give it a try, though even those who like it seem to recommend that you skip the meal.

Have the friends who say it is a must been there themselves? If they have, and you know their tastes are similar to yours, then there%26#39;s your answer.

Thank you Wansteader for your response. I will look at the website you suggest. I agree with you about going with friends%26#39; comments - I suppose my problem is I am not really a %26quot;show%26quot; person - eg going to Las Vegas would be my biggest nightmare. So I just wanted to see what the Paris tripadvisor people thought about it. I also wanted to know what people felt about the food - eg it may be that people who are having food have the best tables to see the show?

We went for the first time a few years back.

Our hotel help secure slightly discounted tix to the latest show. We did dinner elsewhere before arriving.

We didn%26#39;t know what the crowds would be like, and we wanted good seats, so we arrived a full HOUR before the show, and were first in line. Others soon joined the line after.

We were rewarded with seats next to the stage, and a bottle of champagne for both of us to share.

For the price we paid, I%26#39;m glad we saw the show. Wouldn%26#39;t need to go back.

As you leave, there%26#39;s a fun Irish bar next door to the right.

Just for clarity, cambio, I was not referring to a another website but to the views on this site about the Moulin Rouge. These can be called up by tapping in the key words in the search bar on the Paris forum page. I would say that if you are not a show person then spend your money on something else. A museum or even a pavement cafe will be more of a must for you, and would certainly tell you more about Paris than a glitzy show.

Hi, Cambio. I am so glad that you brought this question up. We have also pondered the same combo. Several things that I read which interested me was the fact that many posters suggested to eat elswhere and just attend a show. Since the combo has you dining at the Eiffel that is a plus. Also, I have read that the area surrounding the Moulin is a little questionable at night. Since the tour company picks you up after the show, I feel more comfortable going to this area in the evening. A friend who went to the Lido and the Moulin shows said that she liked the Lido show better. I live in the States and have gone to Las Vegas shows, so for my husband and I, the show is not the highlight it is the Moulin itself. Since my trip is in September, I am very anxious to see what your experience is, as well as other posters responses. Please share your review on your return home. Thanks.

Cambio, I am confused , if going %26quot; to Las Vegas%26quot; would be a nightmare for you, since you are not a %26quot; show person%26quot; then what would possess you to think you would enjoy the Moulin Rouge.

The food is universally panned as mediorce at very best and not worth the higher price. Even people who say they enjoyed the show will usaully skip reviewing dinner. It would have to be banquet food at best, think %26quot; Holiday Inn%26quot; banquet for 200 Elks, LOL

I have been to Moulin Rouge, years ago, and I have been to Vegas,, show I saw in Vegas was better,,LOL and I am not particularily a show person either.!

Been to Moulin Rouge - thought it was really kind of a waste of money and time. I guess the big question is whether or not you want to see a bunch of topless showgirls. The acts are entertaining, but it%26#39;s pretty expensive for what amounts to %26#39;circus type%26#39; acts and showgirls. If you%26#39;re not a show person, and you don%26#39;t feel the need to say, %26quot;Yes, I went to the Moulin Rouge.%26quot;, then skip it.

You know, I think the Moulin Rouge would make tons of money if they put together some sort of %26#39;behind the scenes%26#39; tour. So many of us value the historical part of it, but perhaps not the show itself...hmmm, it%26#39;s an idea!

I thought it was a good show although the food was not memorable although the seats for show and a meal are better than show and a drink.

Of course, it’s not a ‘must do’, but if it is something that you want to see, by all means go and enjoy it for what it is.

we went a year ago. didn%26#39;t have the meal so can%26#39;t comment on that, but got seats near the stage and a bottle of champers (in with the price). i thought it was ok (some parts were better than others) but wife and daughter loved it....
