Should I change hotels????

Hi all,

I recently booked our hotel at Metro Alma Marceau (Hotel Montaigne) area but am not feeling so good about the location. I know it%26#39;s close to lots of tourist things...but not sure if that%26#39;s where I want to be. Specially given that all I here is that St Michel area is the best. Am wondering if should cancel and book in Metro Cluny La Sorbonne (Villa Pantheon) area?

Cancelling would cost total $260 with the additional cost of the new hotel for 2 rooms. The hotel is also a bit better IMO.

What do you suggest? Please help!

I am a fan of great location, I love walking out my door into a great area, not having to take the metro to get anywhere else if I don%26#39;t feel like it. Based on that I would also prefer staying near the Sorbonne or Pantheon.

I personally prefer staying in the 8em arrondissement to the 5em and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Hotel Montaigne.

Stay where you are and use the $260 for a nice dinner.

Bear in mind that you can get from Alma Marceau to St. Michel in a matter of minutes on the Métro. No way I%26#39;d suggest sacrificing $260 to change from your current location... I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll love the Montaigne.

The Paris Metro is so convenient to get almost any where, just stay where you are and use the money saved for a great dinner as previously recommended.

Thanks all for your recommendations, please keep in mind that money is not an issue in this decision. I have had a bad experience with staying in a bit far off place from center of city and know how important good location is for experience.

More important is the location :)

Even people who stay by the Sorbonne take the bus or metro to go sightseeing.

You won%26#39;t starve by Hotel Montaigne - and you can walk to the Eiffel, the Rodin and Orsay museums, the Tuileries..... so not %26#39;un-central%26#39;. There will be cafes at Place de l%26#39;Alma.

The right location for you depends on what you%26#39;re looking for in your trip. %26quot;St Michel area is the best%26quot; is one opinion, but may not be everybody%26#39;s favorite spot. What characteristics are important to you?

The area around your current hotel, while unquestionably convenient to pretty much everything, is also reasonably quiet and definitely upscale. We%26#39;re staying in the vicinity for our honeymoon in June (and I%26#39;ve stayed there on one of my prior trips) although we%26#39;ll spend plenty of time on the Left Bank, too.

I live in the fifth. Yes there is a lot going on here especially near the Sorbonne and Pantheon. But from my own experience, the street noise and traffic are a bit much at times. It is mostly a student population. Save your cash and stay at Alma. Metro or RER C to St. Michel in no time. Even better is the 63 line of the bus. It takes you along Seine to St. Germain to Cluny museum and ends at Gare Lyon.

Exploring when you travel is the best. You get to find all the unique things for that area that aren%26#39;t in a book. Enjoy!
