I just flew in from Prague via Charles De Gaulle to Detroit on Monday. Just to let all of you travelers know.....If you have a connecting flight through CDG you HAVE to have at least 2 hours to make your flight to the US. We arrived there at 11.40am into terminal B and it took a full 2 hours to get to terminal E, there weren%26#39;t any hold ups or missed shuttle buses, it simply took 2 full hours. It was SO FRUSTRATING. Every flight to the US leaves from terminal E and it takes simply ages to get there if you are connecting, you can only get there via shuttle bus and long walks, plus you have to go through a full security check AGAIN, this included separating all of your electronic equipment, cameras, ipods gameboys etc etc and putting them through security separately. I was on the final bus of 3 buses I had to take with a bunch of Americans who were connecting at CDG, they had an hour and 40 minutes from landing there and getting there next flight to New York. By the time the bus dropped them off their flight had departed 30 minutes before and their luggage had been off loaded. Be prepared. If you are CONNECTING through Charles de Gaulle you must have at least two hours or their is a good chance your plane will leave without you. Also be advised if you are connecting through terminal B you need to get to terminal E to fly to the States and it takes 3 buses and several LONG walks. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :o) But better safe than sorry

Hi GT --
I%26#39;m sorry you had to learn the hard way that all of us who hate CDG are right about how long it takes to get around.
One Question - were you not offered the opportunity to use the Transfer Desk and its secure transportation? It would have saved you the extra trip through security. Even so - it%26#39;s horribly difficult to get from one terminal to another in less than 2 hours even though the travel industry seems to think that 1 hour should be a legal (acceptable and possible) connection time.
I will use CDG only at threat of death or divorce. Luckily my husband had a typical experience there this last year, and so divorce is no longer an issue. For some reason all the stars had been alligned and he had never had any difficulty when changing planes there. I guess he was the exception that proves the rule, as they say.

re: %26quot;Every flight to the US leaves from terminal E%26quot;
this is not an accurate statement. Flights to the US also leave from the other %26#39;halls%26#39;, ie. Continental uses 2-A...
I suspect it is Air France%26#39;s flights to the US that depart from 2-E.
Other than this correction, it appears to be very true than connections via Air France at CDG-2 require a long time allowance.

Please tell us what the final outcome was. Did they place you on the next flight? Did you have to wait another day? What happened?

I understand that you had to take a bus from the plane to the terminal, but why 3 buses? I know it%26#39;s a long way, but wouldn%26#39;t it be possible, once the bus reached 2A, to walk to terminal 2E? We will have to attempt the same trick in 3 weeks, with 1:45 between Air France arrival (from Munich) and departure to the states.

Sorry if I was incorrect about the US flights only leaving from terminal E. The first bus that I got onto had a large poster, and it stated %26quot;If you are flying to the USA all flights will depart from terminal E. There were a couple of exceptions on the poster, but I thought they were only for Mexico, if you were traveling to Mexico through the US. (Maybe this bus was only picking up passengers that were flying either Air France or Northwest?)
I was flying Northwest and I flew into CDG on Czech Air. The reason I had to take 3 buses was:
The first bus took me from the plane to terminal B
The second bus took me from terminal B to one part of terminal E (this took the longest amount of time) This is where i had to go through security again From here there was a long walk
The third bus took me from one part of terminal E to the gate where the Northwest flight was leaving from. Again another long walk here
The other flights that were going out of the same part of terminal E were going to Detroit, LA, Atlanta and New York

The same shuttle operates on a loop from 2A to B C D E F. That is one bus. We transited Monday (Mauritius to CDG to Birmingham) with absolutely no problems, although we had only one and a half hours transit time. The bus stays airside all the time, and yes we all go through security, but it was quicker than many aother airports I know. LHR is much worse, and I found Chicago confusing a few years ago, with inadequate signposting and unhelpful staff. The staff at CDG I found helpful, and the signposting functional.

Terminal 2A and terminal 2E are 4 terminals away from each other, you can only get there by riding a bus and along the runway side of the airport. I don%26#39;t believe there is any way to walk to the different terminals as i don%26#39;t think they are connected unless by shuttle bus. Unlike US airports that can link you internally these are separate buildings.

I was on a tour with a college group the first part of June. 2/3 of our group connected from Heathrow, through CdG, to ORD on the way home. They had the same problems, but because there were about 30 of them, they held the plane for them to make the connection! They were 20 minutes late for the flight trying to get through the airport. They were booked with 1.5 hours layover. The rest of us connected through Frankfort. I was dreading that b/c my last connection through there was crazy. Frankfort was a snap, and 1.5 hours was plenty of time to make the connection. Air travel isn%26#39;t getting any easier, is it. Best to keep on our toes and check out places like this before tickets are booked. ~M.E.

Yeah, that wasn%26#39;t pretty, was it?
The original poster is referring to buses that operate on the %26#39;flight side%26#39; of the terminals, whereas the free shuttle that takes people from A to B to C to D to E.. is operating on the %26#39;exterior side%26#39; of the terminal, if that makes any sense.

Actually, 2A and 2E are only separated by 2C, because of the way they are numbered. You can walk from 2A to any of the other parts of terminal 2 but only on the pre-security side.
That said, I%26#39;d leave 2 hours as a minimum for a connection at CDG within terminal 2, having had the experience several times of arriving at the terminal after a bus ride over 45 minutes after we landed!
