I am going to Paris on Wednesday, arriving late in the evening and leaving again on Sunday evening. I am just trying to work out what the best option for metrol tickets is. If i but a carnet (10 single tickets), am i allowed to transfer lines within a metro station using the same ticket or do i have to use a new ticket if i get on a different metro but without leaving the metrol station

No problem, connection metro/metro or Metro/rer in Paris, or RER/metro with the same ticket that you keep until your final exit

So I buy a metro ticket and thats good for one day lets say 8 hours and that will get me all over the subway. Is it good on the city buses? Or do I need to buy something else, our trip is next week, in our town we drive, so this is new to us. Thanks

Not really SH - as raphy points out:
1 ticket = 1 voyage (point A to B)
There are distance restrictions based upon the zone validity of the ticket.
Méto tickets may be used on the bus.

So just so i%26#39;m clear.
Can i go from A to B on one metro then B to C on another metro, all on the same ticket if i dont leave the metro station?
|||
Yes
From your example:
A = origination station
B = transfer point within the métro (if required)
C = destination station
This is 1 voyage requiring 1 ticket. Keep your ticket with you, it will be needed to exit the destination station.

Another way to think about this is, a %26quot;ticket%26quot; isn%26#39;t a metro or bus ticket, it%26#39;s a transit ticket or %26quot;coupon%26quot;, usable on all forms of public transit, Metro, Tram, RER or Bus. Each coupon is good for one journey and is valid when you transfer from one Metro line or RER line to another as long as you don%26#39;t exit the system. If you use one coupon on the bus, it%26#39;s good for transfers to other buses for 90 minutes from the first time you validate it.
The public transportation systems in Paris use a single ticketing system and zone tariff scheme so a single ticket, a carnet of 10 single tickets, a carte orange, etc. are valid for use on ANY mode of public transport.

As detailed above, a single(1) Ticket is valid for one trip on the Paris Metro/RER system (including free transfers between Metro/RER lignes (for a period of 90 mins)...so long as you remain within the turnstile/gate controlled portions of the station. You may also use a Ticket for the public Bus system and also transfer between different Bus routes for up to 90 minutes. You may NOT transfer between Metro/RER and public Buses on the same Ticket. A Ticket is also valid for the FUNICULAR up to MONTMARTRE and on the TRAM system that circles Paris.
For your purposes, you may be well served by purchasing one-calendar-day MOBILIS Zone 1-2 transportation passes (5,60€...valid from First Train of the day until Last Train of that same day) which will provide you unlimited and unrestricted %26#39;..hop-on/hop-off..%26#39; convenience to ALL modes of public transportation (RER, Metro, Bus, Funicular, Trams) within the City of Paris. Purchase individual Tickets (1,50€ ea) for the Saturday evening portion of your stay and a one-day MOBILIS Zone 1-2 for Sunday.....or two MOBILIS. The cost of a CARNET (packet of 10 reduced-price individual Tickets) is 11,10€.
