Dollar Weakens to $1.50 to the Euro

Looks like my dinner at Alain Ducasse at the Plaza Athenee is going to be quite expensive this year.

Yeah, the dollar is taking a beating. But, what can you do...? We%26#39;ll just have to eat in a bit more while in Paris.

Upside: Easy calculation.

Downside: I%26#39;m broke.

That didn%26#39;t work out so well.

Funny, I was just looking at the Canadian to Euro (which is just slightly better than US to Euro) and thinking how much better it is than my last trip to France (though not as good as last fall).

I%26#39;m Canadian so I%26#39;m quite used to the terrible exchange rate for my dollar against most currencies. We have always had to calculate the exchange for everything!

So it%26#39;s going to be expensive, like everything else... I guess I%26#39;ll have to limit the macarons, and no boutique hotel stay, no dinner at Alain Ducasse dinners or Dior bags for me! But, we%26#39;ll still be in Paris.

Hm, there is always another side of the coin:

can´t wait to go shopping in the US...

The international currency boffins seem to think it%26#39;s about bottomed out -- whilst they don%26#39;t see it getting significantly worse, they don%26#39;t see it improving much in the short-term, either....but they at least DO see it stabilising.

Doesn%26#39;t make my hols any cheaper, though!

Excuse me while I take my antacid......ah, that%26#39;s better. Well, I%26#39;ve just vowed not to think about the exchange rate. Maybe it%26#39;ll be better in April. Alain Ducasse, not a chance, but that sandwich from the corner bakery is sounding better every day :-).

Wow - our bill at the Four Seasons is getting higher and higher. Oh well, you only live once.

We have avoided eating in the haute cuisine places during our last trip in November and still had great and memorable meals. The exchange rate is worse now and will not improve much in the coming months.
