Tour de France 08 Stages 14-15?

Hello,

I am currently planning my trip to Europe for the summer and would love to include a stage or two of the tour, but i am having no luck finding some places to during these to stages. Maybe some more details would help.

Stage 14 ends in Digne les Baines on July 20

and Stage 15 ends in Prato Nevoso on July 21.

I just cant seem to find any accomadations.

Or just in general I am unable to find informaiton regarding watching a stage of the tour.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Tom

Hi Tom

I%26#39;m afraid you may have left it a bit late to book anywhere in Digne les Bains or Prato Nevoso. The amount of people that travel along with the race means that hotel rooms in the smaller stage towns fill up quickly - this is maybe why you are having problems. I replied to a similar post recently which may give you some general help

In your case - how are you getting around, do you have a car, or are you using public transport? Are you looking for a particular type of accommodation? Do you want to see the finish in the town or see the race out on the road somewhere? I or others could maybe offer some suggestions if you let us know

Thanks a Bunch for the reply!

Unfortunately I will not have a vehicle. This will be the last three days of a 6 week whirlwind trip around Europe. I really just want to see the tour. I would love to see the stage finishes, but if it was easier it may be more likely to see them out on the road... maybe a feed zone?

Yeah, i noticed immediately i could not find any rooms to stay in these two towns.

Thanks again,

Tom

Hi,

If you have no car it may be a bit difficult to see it. If you are really interested, how about hiring one for a couple of days if you can. You could then pick anywhere along the route to stay and drive wherever you wanted to see the race. If a car is not an option the only other thing would be maybe to go by train to one of the small towns on the route, stay there and watch them go through the town you are staying in, or catch the train to the stage finish (although think there is no train staion in Prato Nevoso). However, doing it that way it may be difficult to see both stages.

Alternatively, could you pick another stage which would be easier to get to, in a larger town where you may get accommodation and on a weekday when it won%26#39;t be so busy.

If you do manage to see the race remember that if you see the stage finish, exciting though it is, if it is a flat sprint finish you will probably wait for hours for a few minutes of racing that will flash past! If you see it on the road try and pick somewhere where they are forced to slow down, going through a town, on a corner etc., and you will see a bit more.

A very long shot to get you to a stage maybe to post a few messages on boards for cycling magazines, clubs etc., asking if anyone can give you a lift from A to B to see the race somewhere along the route where you may get accomodation. It may not work but loads of people follow the race around and are generally very friendly people, so you may get lucky.

Hope this is of some use, sorry I can%26#39;t be any more helpful. Hope you have a good trip whatever you do
