Driving route from UK to Provence and base recommendation

We are planning to drive from the UK to Provence in late June/early July via Switzerland and back through France spending a week based in Provence. Please can anyone help with ideas for routes with spectacular scenery on the way through the Swiss and French Alps as well as recommendations on a suitable base to spend a week whilst looking around the area (I have never been there before). In 2006 we drove 2,000 miles through Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany and Belgium and had the most fantastic time, thanks to recommendations on Tripadvisor, so I hope you can help out this time too.

I would check out www.viamichelin.fr for routes, it will give you scenic ones. Also there maps show scenic roads marked green.

To be centrally placed for Provence try western end of the Luberon, check out B%26amp;Bs in the Luberon on this site.
