1st Sunday free museum day

We will be in Paris the first Sunday in June. We will only have two days to explore. Should we try to visit Louvre on the first Sunday esp. since it will be free. Am worried about it being too overcrowded to see anything. We do get up early and could be in line for opening.

I accidently went on a free sunday omce( I have been 5 or 6 times now),, I hated it. If you can schedule the museum for Sat thats what I would do, Monday could also be a bit more crowded as some other museums are closed on Mondays so the Louvre takes that extra on.

To avoid long lines any day, just enter from Rue De Rivoli underground shopping mall entrance, or metro station, buy ticket from machine. Usually much faster then the main Pyramid entrance.

The Louvre is never really quiet, although evenings are your best shot at an uncrowded visit( only wed and fri I think, check website for hours, if you are there for an open evening then I would go then)

free Sunday is the worst idea ever -- and the following Monday is likely to be pretty good since the freebies will have gone on Sunday

we have been to the Louvre 12 or so times and only waited in a line once -- we once strolled by on a free Sunday and the lines were blocks long -- we quickly found something better to do (like almost ANYTHING would be better to do)

The Louvre is not expensive -- your time in a two day trip to Paris IS expensive -- don%26#39;t waste it in lines and crowds --

Do some other things that day and go to the Louvre on Monday

Thank you. That is exactly what I needed to know to plan accordingly.

Much better to go on a day, when it is not a Free Sunday. Lines are simply long, with a lot of people.

Get yourself a museum pass to give you maximun flexibility

I am going to be dissenting. I have gone to first Sunday twice to the Louvre. There is always a crowd at the pyramid entrance so you take the Carrousel entrance or go from the metro. Mona Lisa is packed in, just like the days I have paid for a ticket. the best tip for expediting your trip to the Louvre is to preplan. Get online and see the map and some of the collections. GO with a plan. You will not see everything but you can still enjoy the museum and save the admission costs and have a nice lunch. My only complaint with first Sunday is you get a lot of people who don%26#39;t know the first rule of any museum- do no touch the art. The crowds are not any worse any other day.

the Carousel entrance usually does not have a long line -- on our one trip to the Louvre on a free Sunday, the line there was also very very very long --- we didn%26#39;t hang around to find out how long -- but I%26#39;d be surprised if it were under 90 minutes -- and that is just the security line -- the ticket lines (for booths or machines) will also be long

The wait was 10 minutes for security on both trips during free Sunday. Now we go at 10, since it opens at 9:30. THe crowds that were waiting are now in front of the Nike, Mona Lisa, and Venus. and since it is free, no lines at the ticket machine or ticket inspection entrances.

When i have gone during the week, the carrousel entrance wait was about 20 minutes each time.
