travel to St. Denis

Thanks for info on the audio guides in St. Denis. Is it advisable for tourists ( my wife and I will look like tourists) to travel by metro to St. Denis. I have had the impression by some posters that this may not be a wise idea. What think ye??

..absolutely no problem IMO.

I agree -- we had no problems at all -- it is a working class neighborhood -- we walked all over it, ate at a small cafe with working men, took the metro back to our apartment

and St. Denis is wonderful

Just use the usual pickpocket precautions and you%26#39;ll be just fine.

I had no problems taking the metro there, although it is a rather long ride from the center of Paris. That particular metro line seemed much more crowded than most others I have taken. And yes, watch for pickpockets.

It is, as has been said, a very busy metro line, and will be pretty crowded. You should, however, have little fear of taking it. The walk from the station to the Basilica is a quick 4 minute walk, and there are a couple of very nice cafes just in front that are great for lunch, and you should have no reservations about being in the area. Be aware that Line 13 does branch off (or Fork) at La Fourche, so when you board, you%26#39;ll want to be certain you%26#39;re getting on a train going to St. Denis, NOT Asnieres-Genevilliers. Other than that, it%26#39;s easy, safe and a trip well worth the effort.

I went last Fall, as a solo female traveler and I felt not at all uncomfortable. It was an amazing experience! I had lunch in a little cafe just next to the Basilica...and then stopped on the way back in Montmartre and climbed my way up to the top to the Sacre Coeur and took in the views of the city below from there. It was one great day!

Hi,

I%26#39;m a female solo traveler, and I%26#39;ve never felt unsafe in any area of Paris, at any hour of the day or night, whether on foot, on a bus, or in the Metro. Safety should not be one of your main considerations when touring in Paris. I%26#39;ve been going there alone for 15 years or more, without problems.

BTW - we all look like tourists - the way we walk and our body language gives us away no matter what else we do to fit in. I long ago gave up trying to look like a local when I travel. My philosophy is, %26quot;If I%26#39;m going to look like a tourist, I%26#39;m going to be the happiest and most courteous tourist they%26#39;ve ever seen%26quot;. This philosophy has made me welcome everywhere I%26#39;ve ever gone, except CDG, of course.

Another %26#39;go for it%26#39; vote from a solo female traveller.

No probs at all. There%26#39;s a nice cafe near the Basilica where I spent time. I also wandered around the streets - there%26#39;s plenty to see.

It was prob the longest (time-wise) metro ride I took, but I always have a book with me so I just read that.

Have fun, Mez
