Rue D'Italie

Further to my post yesterday the owner of the Apartment we had reserved in the Old Town has informed us that he%26#39;s sold it to someone else.

We%26#39;ve found another one now, which is on Rue D%26#39;Italie in the city centre.

Can anyone advise honestly how far the walk is to the Old Town, to the Beach and to the station to explore the rest of the coast? Also what nightlife is there in the area, would it be viable to go spend a couple of evenings in the Old Town and how easy would it be to get back late at night? Is it safe on foot or easy to get a cab?

Fast responses appreciated, I don%26#39;t want to lose this one too!

Rue d%26#39;Italie is just off Avenue Jean Medecin and although close to the station, it%26#39;s not where I%26#39;d want to be staying for a holiday. However, it%26#39;s within a reasonable walking distance of Vieux Nice and the beach 15-20 mins.

For other apartments look at www.nicepebbles.com.

Oh I was afraid someone would say that! Why so?

This is becoming more of a nightmare every day!

The apartments on nicepebbles.com are all gorgeous but beyond our budget I%26#39;m afraid. Direct flights from Jersey are not cheap. We have about £430 to spend on an apartment and being 3 friends need 3 beds! A tall order I know, thus how upset we are to be messed about by the first place, which was perfect!

Back to the drawing board maybe....

The area near the station%26#39;s a bit scuzzy. However if you want to travel about a lot, it%26#39;s convenient.

Hi Bex.

Don%26#39;t know when you are going but you might try villanao; one deals directly with the owner, so it%26#39;s much cheaper, but *more risky*, than dealing with an agent.

We are staying in the apartment copied above; the price is an unbelievable 185 euros for a week in June! Seemed to good to be true but appears to be pukka. The apartment we have chosen may be too tiny for you, but there are many others advertised on the site.

Good luck

Hi Bex,

Personally, I would pass on the Rue D%26#39;Italie location. About the only plus for the area, is that it%26#39;s near the train station. The neighborhood is no bargain at night, and the walk to the old town as well as the beach is more than a walk. Try to find something closer to the old town or the beach, and taxi it to the train station. Enjoy!

Have a different opinion from Funkster re. Rue D%26#39;Italie as I and many friends have stayed in an apartment in Avenue Durante which is round the corner for the past three years.

Rue D%26#39;Italie has great local shops, supermarkets, launderette etc and leads on to avenue Jean Medecin, the main shopping area where you can get a tram to the Old Town if you don%26#39;t fancy the 15-20 minute walk. It takes me just over 10 minutes to walk to the beach and a couple of minutes to the station.

We have never encountered any problems in the area (Musicien quarter) and the locals are very friendly.

Enjoy your trip to Nice.

If you try riviera-rentals you will find lots of apartments to let within your budget.

Well we found one at last, on Rue De la Providence; had to miss out on the balcony we were after since it%26#39;s a ground floor but at least we each get a bed!!

It%26#39;s booked now so no going back but any advice on the area would be great.

We%26#39;re girls by the way; 3 of us!
