How to use Paris Visite Card?

I was given an unused Paris Visite Card from a friend, for my upcoming trip to Paris. I cannot find much info on how to use it online, but he said it can be used on the subway and buses. Does it work like a normal ticket on the subway? (ie. put it into the turnstile?). Also, is there anything I have to do to validate it, since there is no dates or times on it?

Yes, Dan, you just have to use the card as you would normally, e.g. through the turnstyles. You also need to write your name on the card area indicated. The Visite card is activated when you first use it and will run out in how ever many days it runs for (which is between one and five days).

The French part of the RATP site is more clear about how to use the card (at least, if you understand French). Before use, you need to:

- write your first and last name on the card;

- copy the number of the card onto the ticket (the %26quot;coupon%26quot; you put in the turnstiles);

- write the first day of use on the ticket. (note that in Europe, the date is often written differently from the US: 03-09-08 would be understood as 3 September 2008, not 9 March 2008)

Remember that the validity of this card is in days - one day being the period from the first train in the morning until the last train at night (which runs after midnight). The first time you use it, the date is also recorded on the magnetic strip. To get the most use out of it, start using it in the morning - should you start using it at eleven o%26#39;clock in the evening, your %26quot;first day%26quot; is only about 2 hours long!
