Difference between Restricted and Flexible Rail fares

Hi,

Can someone explain what the difference is between a restricted and flexible ticket? On Rail Europe, they have these different fares for the same class of travel (ie, restricted or flexible 1st class, restr. or flex 2nd cl), and I don%26#39;t understand what the differences are.

Thanks!

Susanne

There are always lot%26#39;s of differences so check the small print but basically a flexible ticket means you can change your mind at the last minute and take an earlier or later train (sometimes depends on seats being available). Restricted tickets mean you are more or less committed to travelling on the train you said - typically the restrictions are there to stop you from travelling at peak times when they can sell to business travellers at full price. If you need to change the train it will often be expensive, but you get the best deals by travelling when others are not.
