Best located hotel?

What is the best area of the city of Tours to stay at for sightseeing etc? I read that near the train station is a bit seedy?

Does anyone know if the Hotel Colbert is open for business? Several emails to the hotel are not being answered!

I am not sure that I completely agree with the seedy descriptor. There are many good hotels in the city center area, some include parking. For a complete list of all hotels in this area:

Their web site appears to be operational however they are conspicuously absent from the Office de Tourisme%26#39;s official list of hotels in the city.

It%26#39;s possible they have changed names.

Its probably best to email the Tourist Bureau (Which is right opposite the station BTW) about the hotel.

In my experience hotels in France (and for that matter, Spain) for some reason tend not to reply to emails. This doesn%26#39;t mean your booking hasn%26#39;t been made (then again the hotel could have closed, changed name, not read their emails etc etc etc) but it is always disconcerting. For some reason a lot of the smaller hotels just sont take emails seriously.

The Area around the station isnt too bad - for sure it isnt disneyland, but most of the department goes there at some time or another, because it is very close to the government office (Prefecture) for the Department.
