1st 2 weeks August - how crowded?

We live in France and don%26#39;t get much choice on holiday dates - so want to know realistically how crowded it would be in first 2 weeks of August. Any experience?

Certain areas will be crowded, but it is not difficult to get away from the crowds. It would not put me off going if they were the only dates I had. It would be important to book your accommodation in advance.

I don%26#39;t know which areas would be best for avoiding crowds - the centre, of course, lots of space there, and perhaps the south-west, but others may be able to advise you better on that.

We have been to Calvi the last 2 weeks of July and it was busy no doubt. I would imagine that 1st - around 25th August has to be extremely busy with Italian and French visitors. The size of the car parks (very big) for the beaches in the south east like Rondinara and Palombaggia would indicate that they are very crowded in high season i.e. August. IMHO May/June and September/October are the best months to visit but not everyone can get their holiday allocation then.
