Paris experts: your help please - 3 day itinerary required.

Hi all,

I%26#39;ve just booked a 3 day trip to Paris for my GFs 30th. Arriving on Eurostar around 1pm Friday 13th June and leaving around 5pm on Monday 16th.

We%26#39;ll be staying at the Regencia Elysees on avenue Marceau.

I%26#39;d really appreciate suggestions for what to do, where to go, where to eat, etc etc. with a view to getting some sort of itinerary together, although we%26#39;d also like some time for relaxing and people watching!

Given the time we have available, I guess we are looking for an %26#39;edited highlights%26#39; trip, seeing all the best bits.

I don%26#39;t have a limitless budget but don%26#39;t mind paying for the important things and maybe one or two extravagant meals.

Oh, and its a surprise trip.

Thanks all, looking forward to your suggestions.

Should have also said that we only have a reservation at the hotel so are able to change if there are more suitable suggestions.

This hotel seems to be the sort of style we like though.

Thanks

Anyone?

Guess you guys must get lots of these threads. Want to point me in the direction of a recent one?!

You should consider getting a hop-on/hop-off bus ticket that will tour around to all the main sights. This is a great way to see everythign you wnat to be sure to see, and to give you a feel for how thecity is laid out. Look a the review at the following site here on TA tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187147-d585…

Probably not enough time to go into the Louvre, especially going on a weekend in June. You might opt for Musee d%26#39;Orsay instead, the river in the 7th. This has great Impressionist paintings on the top floor. Ile de la Cite is a great island with Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle and the Conciergerie. There is also a great flower market in the middle of Ile de la Cite that is worth a walk through. Cross over the Ile St. Louis and stop in at Berthillon for some ice cream - the best. Head over into the 3rd (the Marais) for shopping and taking in the culture of this area. It is a kitchy area but I think you will like the boutiques and avant garde stores.

One of my favs in paris is the Pere-Lachaise Cemetary. It is truly amazing! Most people overlook it becasue it is not down in the midst of the other main attractions, but it is definitely worth a trip. Also, go to Montmarte - do not take the funicular, walk up the steps. The views from Sacre Coeur are amazing. You can also get good views from the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

You will need to find a good street market to go to. This is the essence of Paris. Follow this link to an article on some of the best in the city expatica.com/fr/life_in/leisure/paris-street…

If you want great hot chocolate and macarons go to Laduree http://www.laduree.fr/ there are several locations in thecity. Eat crepes from a street vendor, stop at cafes for wine and just soak it all in.

Bon chance

We spent 3 days in Paris in 2000. You could always stay longer in Paris, but we saw quite a bit in 3 days. You will do a lot of walking though! We spent an entire day at Versailles - fabulous!! If you can get there, don%26#39;t hesitate. I would skip the Louvre unless you are really into art - you%26#39;ll see a lot of great art at Versailles. The only reason I wanted to see the Louvre (we spent one evening there for a couple of hours) was to see the Mona Lisa - very disappointing. It was a lot smaller than I imagined, was behind glass and was soooo crowded you couldn%26#39;t even get near it!! Of course you must see Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, and the Arc de Triumphe. Go to the Arc late in the day or early evening (Paris is like NY - it never sleeps and nothing ever closes!!) When you are done at the Arc take a stroll down the Champs Elysee for a late night (and I mean late - Europeans like to eat their dinners late) dinner. We had dinner around 10:00 pm and were not the last ones to come in!! We also saw a few minor places (Napolean%26#39;s tomb, etc.) as we passed by. Definately hit a market and buy lunch one day by picking up a loaf of bread, some cheese and meat, and some wine - go to the park and eat it!! Great wine for pennies!! For a first trip on a short time budget, that would be my suggestions!!

Have a great time!

PS - We went everywhere by foot or by subway. The subway in Paris is very clean and you can buy great maps to help you get around!!

Great stuff guys - keep it coming!

Thanks for the links, esp the one to Laduree!

For one of your splurges, I suggest that the two of you take an evening segway ride. Check out Fat Tire Bikes website or viator.com. Segways are a blast and easy to maneuver, you see the night time lights of Paris, including the twinkling Eiffel Tower and get a little tour of some of the main tourist sites. It is really fun. You can read reviews about it. Many people who do it can%26#39;t wait to do it again.

I also suggest that you go to the Opera Garnier to do a self-tour. Just walk around inside. I think it is the most beautiful building in Paris.

I recommend, for a short visit, limiting yourself rather than going mad (well, that%26#39;s for me personally; I end up tired and enoying doing a couple of things each day).

Some things I would definitly try to do:

The towers at Notre Dame. Get there early to beat the queues. There seems like a lot of steps, but they are well staggered and not very steep. The view from the top is amazing, being so close to the gargoyles and the bells.

As others have said Monmartre is a must! The view from Sacre Coer is stunning, and it is lovely up there in the early evening. Take up a couple of beers and sit on the steps. There are sometimes bands or buskers playing as well.

A river cruise; we liked the Vedettes Pont Neuf, but the Batobus is great if you want to get around and don%26#39;t require a tour guide.

A wonderful romantic meal. Our favourite place we%26#39;ve been in Maceo in the 1e. It is quite unusual and doesn%26#39;t blow the bank, as the menu is good value (about 35 euro per person). The staff is excellent, also.

Taking time just to sit in a cafe and people watch.

Pere Lachaise - the beautiful cemetery is well worth a visit and a peaceful place to walk and think.

Of course, you have to go up la Tour! I prefered going up at twilight, watching the city lights come up was breathtaking.

I%26#39;d say skip going up the Eiffel Tower. There is usually a long line and you only have 3 days in Paris. As many other people have agreed with me, the best thing about the Eiffel Tower is looking at it--especially with the lights twinkling at night for 10 minutes on each hour--and not looking out from it. Go up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. It is a more interesting view from up there.

Strolling through Jardin des Tuileries is a must.

That is fairly close to you - make it your early morning stroll to get the atmosphere of Paris.

Lunch in the gardens although not haute cuisine is good for people watching.

If you like art then don%26#39;t miss the Orangerie in there - Monets museum is ideal for a short visit.(open pm)

Notre Dame is on Ile de la cite-make sure you also stroll the other Isle - Isle St Louis.

Lots of good lunch spots on there on Rue Ile St Louis - can recommend Cafe Med - amazing quality %26amp; value 3 course lunch.

Top end of Palais Royal is Restaurant Grand Vefour if you are looking for a special(expensive) treat.(lunch menu is more affordable)

Most of the restaurants I can recommend are over in the 7th near the tower.

Might need a taxi back from there though.

Check my posting if of interest.

Have a look round the Marais and certainly Place Vosges.Great place to sit and again soak up the atmosphere. Cafes here as well.

Stroll the Right bank from Islands back to Concord for good views and shops ( some very expensive, some touristy - get your replica tower)

Luxembourg gardens is an obvious one to go to as well for atmosphere.

Like many on this site I would say if you are on a short visit then walk as much as you can to really take in the atmosphere of the city.
