Nice - tramworks/ roadworks finished??

I visited Nice last July, and it was fabulous. The only thing was that there was a lot of disruption due to the tram/road works. There was a couple of streets which were totally uprooted, and we stayed in an apartment beside which they were working, and a few nights they worked through the night.

It was very disruptive, and I hardly slept a wink that week.

Anyway, my parents are very keen to visit Nice, and I highly recommend it, but I would not encourage them to go unless the works are finished. I would hate them to be caught like I was.

I googled and saw that the tram is up and running, but just wondering are the works totally finished? Is that big long main street (cant recall name) back to normal?

Many thanks

The main shopping street av Jean Medecin is as near back to normal as it will ever be. Likewise avenue de la Republique from place Garribaldi to Riquier

The problem is place Garribaldi itself - will be a beautiful square but end of May is the rumoured date - its a huge project

The are still a few minor work in side streets -but compared to the last four years of upheaval the present state is bliss

The %26#39;big, long main street%26#39; certainly isn%26#39;t back to normal. It is now virtually traffic free apart from the tram, allowing pedestrians to occupy most of the area and to walk around in safety (apart from the possibility of being sliced in two by the virtually silent tram)

Place Garibaldi was progressing quickly last week and is going to be one of the most pleasant places in the city when completed.

Dear spud,

You should ask about the noise levels you might encounter. The PACA region is 2nd only to Paris in terms of big, big, big, pollution (official in studies.

However, whover you rent from, you should get a detailed description of noise levels in the apartment/hotel.

We stayed in an apartment last year and were woken at 6am every day by the alarm clock of our upstairs neighbours!
