We%26#39;re flying into Bastia/Poretta and then face what is claimed to be a 3 1/2 hour drive to Cargese. Does anyone have experience of this route, please? Our directions are to go across country to Ajaccio then up the D81. Any comments/ advice greatly appreciated (we%26#39;ve had previous experience of Corsican roads!).
Also, any favourite tips for Cargese? This part of the island is new to us.
Many thanks

I hope you enjoy Cargese. It%26#39;s a very pleasant little town with all the facilities you will need such as restaurants, banks, ATM and supermarkets. The town itself is on a hill above the sea but is only a kilometer or so from a very fine beach, Plage de Pero and there are other beaches and coves nearby. There is also a marina by the sea with cafes etc. And of course the Greek connection with a Greek Orthodox church opposite a Catholic Church.
The route you have been supplied with is by far the best and quickest. You%26#39;ll have a natural stop at half way at Corte and you%26#39;ll saee the great scenery, especially around Vizzavona. You skirt the edge of Ajaccio unless you particularly wish to go to the centre. Wide and reaswoably straight roads al the way.
One %26quot;must do%26quot; whilst in Cargese is Les Calanques, which are just past the pleasant little town of Piana.
Narrow winding road full of tourists and buses but well worth seeing. Various stoppong places with views and walks. Also good pizza places in the town square at Piana.
You can also do are day trip in a circle taking in the above, by going via Sagone, Vico, Evisa and the Spelunca gorges to Porto and Piana.

Thank you, aardvark10, you%26#39;ve put my mind at rest re the driving. The area sounds great, especially with the mountains being close to hand. I understand there are river pools inland too - we fund some on the Solenzara last year and they were fabulous.
Can%26#39;t wait to go back to Corsica!
