A day in Paris - What to do?

I have a business meeting in Paris next Monday, but I am taking the first Eurostar train on Sunday from London to Paris. I will have all day Sunday to wander around (11 AM until about 9 PM). This is my first time in Paris. Any recommendations on what to do? Any must sees? I do not mind walking around a good deal.

Notre Dame

Seine Boat Trip

La Tour Eiffel

The Louvre

Montmartre is good for %26#39;wandering%26#39;

Even though you only have 1 day, get a guide book and do SOME research of your own, you might find out about stuff that you would enjoy that I have not mentioned.

Do you know where you%26#39;re staying?

|||

Good question by AC, because you are going to need to make sure that the hotel is wiling to store your luggage for you before checkin, and that will be your starting point. Also what%26#39;s with the 9PM reference?

|||

I am staying near Gare du Nord train station, and 9 PM is my personally set curfew for the time I should actually do some of the work for the meeting at 8 AM the next morning.

Simple recommendation : tkae the subway from your hotel to l%26#39;Ile de la Cité, and take your time wandering slowly from there to l%26#39;Arc de triomphe. Walking would only take one hour, but sinec you%26#39;re visiting,it will be done in 5-6 hours. You%26#39;ll see on the way : Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle (you can cross the Seine to see a bit of Latin quarter), Place Dauphine, a glimpse on the opera, Le Louvre, Jardin des Tuileries, Place de la Condorde, Champs Elysées, Ladurée (seems to become a major attraction), Arc de Triomphe. There you take the subway for a two station ride to take you to trocadero where you%26#39;ll see the Eiffel Tower at sunset.

you can enter to visit, or just stroll by, you%26#39;ll have hundred of places to eat.

At the end of teh day, you%26#39;ll have seen all the must see landmarks, and felt by walking in it a little bit of the city atmosphere : you%26#39;ll never have that by riding a 2 hour tourist bus tour.

The only thing you%26#39;ll not see in the itinerary is Montmartre : but for a day, don%26#39;t ask to see Paris.

If you want the itinerary street by street, ask away...

Do the above and have dinner in Montmartre. You shouldn%26#39;t miss Montmartre and a nice way to take it in is to eat there.

|||

Good idea. My suggestion : pick a restaurant rue lepic or rue des Abbesses (on the way down, walking back toward paris centre). Still in Montmartre, and very much the Montmartre atmosphere, but far less touristy than place du terte and around

|||

I recommend too to visit l%26#39;Ile de la Cité/Ile Saint Louis, Saint Germain les Prés or Montmartre.

You can find pictures and revievs about those streets here on http://www.goingparis.com

Thanks for all the info!

If you have time for absolutely nothing else at least do a Seine river cruise. You%26#39;ll get great views of Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower (it%26#39;s especially beautiful at night).
