Hi everybody,
After spending a week in each Sicily and Sardinia, I%26#39;d like to spend another week in southern Corsica and I was wondering if I should stay the whole week in Bonifacio and day trip from there (Porto Vecchio, Sartene or nearby neaches) or split it bewteen Ajaccio and Bonifacio.
I%26#39;ll arrive in Ajaccio from Porto Torres, which means that I must, at least, spend one night there anyway before heading to Bonifacio because of logistics.
On that same note, is it worth daytripping to Porto Vecchio and Sartene? I%26#39;ve never been a fan of day trips, so I don%26#39;t know whether I should focuse on just one place in order to appreciate it.
I still must phone my travel agent in order to book the flight and find out whether I should go back home from Ajaccio or from Olbia in Sardinia.

Nobody else has replied so I thought I%26#39;d try...
It (as usual) depends on what you want to do. Personally, I wouldn%26#39;t choose to spend extended periods in either Porto Vecchio or Ajaccio, but both are interesting, and both are worth a day%26#39;s visit. If I were in your shoes I%26#39;d hire a car for the week and base myself in or around Bonifacio.
From there, make sure you take a boat trip to the Lavezzi Islands, go inland to the Aigules de Bavella (a breathtakingly sheer mountain range) and spend a while in that most Corsican of towns, Sartene. While you are in Ajaccio, make sure youi see Napoleon%26#39;s house, and if your schedule permits, take the train ride north from Ajaccio to Vizzavona and beyond.
Have a lovely week, and be sure to give us your impressions when you get back! DTR

Ajaccio is a very pleasant town, so it is worth visiting. However, the beaches are much nicer and more spectacular near Bonifacio.

I don%26#39;t have any experience of the Ajaccio area, but the beaches around the south tip of Corsica are wonderful and it%26#39;s very possible to find some very quiet ones with a bit of a walk. Bonifacio is certainly interesting. The boat trips from here are also well worth taking, and there are some reasonable beaches, but nicer ones are a bit further up the coast.
If you get up as far as Porto Vecchio, the port and old town are quite attractive and worth wandering around. There are some iconic Corsican beaches around Porto Vecchio - Santa Guilia, Palombaggia etc. - but they get very busy in peak season. If you have the time, going up to Solenzara on the east coast and then heading up into the mountains along the river (D268) is a wonderful drive, with the chance to bathe in some spectacular river pools. The light on the mountains in the evening is just breathtaking, and there are some good restaurants in Zonza for an evening meal. It is a long drive, though!
Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy Corsica. I love it.
