Transportation to airport/hotel- Book in ahead?

Hi everyone,

It feels like I’ve been on these boards almost everyday! Who knew there is so much going into planning a vacation!

My husband and I are booking our flights and hotels for Paris and Rome and were wondering if we should book the transportation as well (to %26amp; from hotel/airport) OR if it would be less expensive to just hail a taxi at the airports on our own?

I’m not sure what would be more practical?

I have not selected the hotels yet, but we are searching for a 2-3 star hotel that is centrally located in each of the cities so I’m assuming it may not be that far from the airport?

Thank you so much for any tips or advice as always.

More practical is a taxi at the door or an airport bus depending on your hotel location.

Paris center is 16 kms from airport (19 miles).

It%26#39;s probably less expensive to book a van before you get to Paris for the trip from the airport. Yellow Van or Grey Van IIRC. You can have the hotel book a van or a taxi for the trip back at the end of your vacation. Ask them a day or two before you leave.

If you use a van, you will probably not be the only couple on that ride. They will double or triple up people so as to maximize the profit, attempting to schedule people on the same or close flights, but you might sit around for an hour or so until the others arrive.

In Paris take the RER/metro unless you have tons of luggage -- you will get instructions for the trip on your hotel%26#39;s website

if too much baggage take a cab from the official ranks

In Rome -- take the train in to the center and get a cab at Termini at the official cab rank -- if there are 2 the cost of a cab is in range -- if three, a cab is the best choice from the airport

Taxi......vans mean you have to share and wait and go to other hotels to drop off other passengers..the metro is dead easy but after a long flight you are probably going to be tired and loaded down with luggage...again, take a taxi! And stay in the 7th (I like the Hotel du Cadran) for ambience and location (corner rooms on top floors have views of Eiffel Tower).
