Renting Apt. in Provence - Home Insurance Requested?

Thanks to some great feedback on this forum I am in the process of renting an apartment in Aix-en-Provence.

All is going well with the owner but she has requested to see a copy of my home insurance that insures us while we rent her apartment in Aix. The owner states: %26quot;in your own home insurance you must have an extension, insuring you and your family when you rent a property for vacation%26quot;. I have not had this request before but we usually don%26#39;t stay in apartments. Does anyone know what is being requested and why I need it?

I have no reason to believe there is a problem just curious.

This has been covered before on the forum.

I contaced our French home insurer and French policies offer riders to cover us when we stay in vacation rentals in France. They (or at least mine) does not cover us if we rent a vacation property in the U.S.A. for example.

I have no idea if U.S. insurance companies cover you outside the U.S.A. You could call and ask, but that is what she is looking for.

In the previous thread on this forum, the owner, finding out that the rentor%26#39;s insurance would not cover him/her in France waived the requirement.

Just for a follow-up, we did contact the owner and in the end it does seem that our house insurance (in Canada) is all that is required and it is required to show you have protection for your contents while in the apt in France.

Its still a bit unclear, but its enough to go for it and I have no reason to believe there is a problem with the owner!
