No other shoe will do

You know I%26#39;ve been going through all the posts on a variety of topics but the one that makes me the most nervous, or should I say, confused, is the shoe thing.

I do not own any other comfortable shoes except my nike walking shoes and they are WHITE. So am I going to be,what ridiculed, marked for muggings, arrested?

I am not going out and buying black shoes that I have to break in and hope they won%26#39;t give me blisters not to mention no one where I live where%26#39;s them. Goofy, this person makes me nervous, people wear those around here not to mention the standard footwear is flip flops even in the winter.

Sure we want to fit in but by virtue of how we dress, we will stand out. Our uniform will be jeans a sweater, jacket and those damn white tennis shoes.

cheers,

k

After a long day of walking in Paris, you will rejoice in your decision to wear your comfortable shoes. There is no shame in being a tourist in the most beautiful city in the world.

|||

After you come back, you%26#39;ll wonder that you previously thought anyone would even notice. Honest.

|||

You are going to walk a lot. Wear whatever you are comfortable with. There is no fashion police in the streets of Paris. :-)

I think I need to wake-up more before I start typing. Talk about typos. How shameful. where%26#39;s for wears? Oh lord that%26#39;s really bad.

I%26#39;m wearing %26#39;em and that%26#39;s it folks.

cheers,

Like the others said:

Wear what you want, be comfy and be happy!

I think, if you don%26#39;t live in Paris and you visit you%26#39;re a tourist and there is nowt wrong with that! I also think that to enjoy visiting a place properly you need to have comfortable footwear...

:-)

Wear whatever makes you comfortable, if others object, it is their problem not yours.

With regard to blending in, I believe the locals can always spot the tourists no matter how hard they try to blend in.

Yes, new white trainers as walking shoes screams tourist IMHO. Take extra precautions to prevent being singled out as a potential target of petty crimes. But then one should always take extra care when travelling IMHO.

Dear Misssmith10

Well if you followed my recent post%26quot;confessions of a white sneaker wearer,%26quot; you will know that I (in innocence) wore white trainers for a week last October.

No,I was not ridiculed, marked for muggings or arrested. Nor did I notice people staring, pointing fingers at me, giving me bad service or disowning me because I am an embarrasement to my country!

In fact wherever I went I was met with courtesy and politeness by the French people and other tourists. ( with the noteable exception of ONE waiter at a fish restaurant in the Place de Bastille, but that%26#39;s another story.)

Like you, after reading this forum I began to feel uncomfortable about wearing my comfortable, white leather Lacoste trainers but was loathe go to the expense of buying new black shoes. Even though white triners are standard wear for lots of people on Bolton England where I live.

My solution is to dye my trainers black and I am going to try them out next week in Sligo in Ireland.

Wear what you want, and what is comfortable for you. You will not look out of place. As there are lots of Britsh tourists in Paris many of them from Bolton! There will be lots of other people wearing white shoes just like you.

Unfortunately my previous post got rather heated and was stopped by the Tripadvisor staff.

I don%26#39;t know how old you are but one rather sweet poster on my last thread said that %26quot;there was a special dispensation to allow grandmas to wear white trainers%26quot; Ahhhh loved that!

Don%26#39;t worry, be happy! Hope you have a wonderful time.

Hey, Misssmith10. Glad to read that you are wearing those %26quot;damn white tennis shoes%26quot;. After reading previous posts, I told my husband that he couldn%26#39;t wear his white tennis. He looked at me with a confused look and just shook his head. I probably would hear about it for years if he wore his Rockports and got blisters! I live about 75 miles from you and you are so right - flip flops all year round. :) I guess we will be packing his tennis shoes.

The white tennis shoes syndroma is pure urban legend.

Pure.

Legend.

Urban, too.

I think the problem with white tennis shoes - along with most of the wardrobe questions - is not what other people will think, but you worrying about what they will think.

They will know youre tourists. Unless you are wearing a completely French wardrobe with French shoes and a French haircut they will know anyway. Even if you are fully french equipped they will probably know. I have never been mistaken for a Frenchman, even when I am wearing my work clothes.

Doent worry about what other people think - worry about how comfortable you feel - Physically and Mentally.

Yup - you will look like a tourist. If that doesnt worry you, it certainy wont worry anyone else.....
