How long from paris to monet's garden?

Hi All,

Visiting Paris later this year for 6 nights and just want to know how long it is from Paris to Monet%26#39;s garden by train? I looked everywhere on the internet.

Cheers!

As I recall, it is about a 45 minute train ride from Gare St Lazare to Vernon. There is another 10 minute bus ride to the house.

You can find a schedule at www.raileurope.com

A word of advice: get there when the place opens otherwise you will be overrun by the armada of tourists.

Your best bet for making the trip out to Monet%26#39;s Home %26amp; Gardens at Giverny is to leave Paris early in the AM to miss the crowds that develop during the day. Take the 08:15 AM train from PARIS-Gare Saint to VERNON station. This train is direct and gets you to VERNON at 09:02 AM (23,80€ r.t. purcahse tickets on day of departure at Gare Saint Lazare). There is regional bus service from just outside the doors of VERNON station (bus service schedules are roughly synchronized to SNCF train schedules) that will take you the short distance to Giverny in 15 mins--dropping you off just about outside the entrance gates..before Monet%26#39;s Home %26amp; Gardens opens for the day (regularly Closed on Mondays) at 09:30 AM.

Once the gates open, blow past the home and upper gardens and make a beeline for the lower %26#39;..Les Nympheas..%26#39; water gardens. The %26#39;Les Nymphias%26#39; water gardens are not as large as you might imagine...and they are what many (perhaps most) come to see. As a result they fill-up quickly. By getting down to the gardens early, you will have clearer and less %26#39;cluttered sight-lines and camera angles...you won%26#39;t be taking photos of others, taking photos of you, taking photos of them, taking photos of...well, you get the picture?

Arriving early serves another purpose, besides avoiding the worst of the crowds. You can spend a few hours at Monet%26#39;s Home %26amp; Gardens and than take the bus back to VERNON station for either a train directly back to Paris (approx.12:55 PM)...OR...a train from VERNON (12:51) onward along the same rail ligne to ROUEN (45 mins--19,20€ r.t.) for lunch and a %26#39;..Rouen-Lite..%26#39; tour of this interesting old city...before returning to Paris later.

OR...you can remain for lunch in or around Giverny, visit the MUSÉE d%26#39;ARTS AMÉRICAIN-- http://www.maag.org/ --and other regional attractions before returning to Paris.

The early morning--08:15 AM--train provides you with the most benefits and OPTIONS (as mood or moment present) for your day out.

I took a Fat Tire Bike Tour of Monet%26#39;s garden in Sept 2006. It took about an hour to get there and we picked up our bikes. rode to a store and bought food for a picnic which we had in a park by the river and an old mill. Then it was an easy 15 minute bike ride to the garden. Along the way the guide told us some interesting facts about he area and we got to see more than we would have than on a bus. It was September so there wasn%26#39;t much of a crowd and we took our time and explored the village before meeting at the assigned place. It was one of the highlights of my trip and I%26#39;d reccomend it to any one.

Another issue you might have is purchasing your tickets at Gare St Lazare. If you use the staffed ticket booth, you might wait 45 minutes. The automated kiosks let you buy them right away.

We took a 1/2 Day ParisVision mini-bus tour - they picked us up, collected a mom %26amp; daughter, then another couple, and drove us to Monet%26#39;s home and gardens. There was excellent commentary along the way. There%26#39;s a separate entrance for tours, and the tour operators have appointments. We were first in and given a %26quot;plan%26quot; to follow, which worked out perfectly. We were able to get photos of the gardens and lily ponds without other people in them, and there was no line for the house. We had plenty of time to visit the American Museum and enjoy a nice lunch before returning to the van for the trip back to Paris. Once back in Paris, the driver offered to drop us at our hotel, or anywhere else we wished to go.

In the nice weather, it%26#39;s really difficult to beat the tour groups, so I decided it would be better to be with one. It%26#39;s more economical to go on your own, and that%26#39;s what we usually do, but for certain destinations, a tour is just so much more efficient and pleasant.

Is there a significant difference in crowds on the weekends versus a weekday? I%26#39;m working on my Paris itinerary for early October this fall and I%26#39;m trying to determine which days of the week would be best for (separate) daytrips for Giverny and Versailles.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Is there a significant difference in crowds on the weekends versus a weekday?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

YES---Weekend tend to be busier at any major attraction. Bear in mind that in addition to foreign tourists, local residents and regional tourists decide to come out to visit their own national treasures with families and friends on their days off...swelling the numbers. If you%26#39;ve ever visited any major museum in the US on a week-end, then you know this to be true. France or Paris is no different.

For purposes of your own itinerary, it%26#39;s worth noting that both Chateau de Versailles and Monet%26#39;s Home %26amp; Gardens at Giverny are regularly closed...as is the Musée d%26#39;Orsay, Musée Rodin and the several museums administered by the City of Paris. As a result, you can expect an attraction like Musée du Louvre to attract larger crowds on Mondays due to these closures. You might also expect larger crowds at the Musée d%26#39;Orsay on Tuesdays when the Louvre and many other %26#39;..national..%26#39; museums are regularly closed.

One other note: you are aware that the attractions at Giverny--Monet%26#39;s Home %26amp; Gardens, Musée d%26#39;Art Américain--are CLOSED for the season and do not re-open until April 1st ??

Just a comment. The morning train trip to Vernon was uncrowded, but the return trip in the afternoon was absolutely packed with the aisles so full of passengers that the conductor was unable to make his way through to check our tickets!
