How is Giens?

We are looking at renting a house or a part of a house close to the beach at ile d%26#39;hyeres/Giens. I can%26#39;t find any pictures of Giens, is that a bad sign? Anyone who knows if Giens is a nice place or not?

Thanks,

Elisabeth

The end of the peninsula%26#39;s absolutely beautiful, but sort of residential rather than touristy. It does get a fair amount of traffic down to the ferry port at Tour Fondue, but there are lovely areas for walking around the salt pans/marshes. I saw some flamingoes there last September. I had a lovely walk from the village back towards Hyeres via the marshes. It is quite built up, but houses rather than apartment blocks. Fairly quiet at least in September apart from the one busy main road. I am not sure what it would be like in high season. I was thinking of staying there myself this year but couldn%26#39;t find anywhere in my price range. Would be interested to know where you found to stay? Are you staying in Giens itself, or somewhere along the peninsula? Other villages along it are more touristy. Howver down the west side of the peninsula it is more isolated and less traffic although many beaches. If you are going out of high season you might want to hire a car as the last bus along to Giens from Hyeres goes at about 17.00 and taxis are horribly expensive.

Porquerolles by the way is stunningly beautiful, wonderful beaches, almost no cars. If you didn%26#39;t like Giens (though I can%26#39;t imagine you not liking it) you could always go to Porquerolles every day. NB if you want night life this is not the place to go, but if you want beaches, watersports and relaxation, it%26#39;s for you. Have you seen the Hyeres website at www.hyeres-tourisme.com there are pix of Porquerolles on there.
