cheapest way to commute around paris

Help!! Im so confused! We will be in Paris for a week (2-9 July) on a very tight budget.

will fly in and take eurostar out to London.

My question is for transport in Paris including ine day trip to Versailles what is the cheapest option?

We plan to do the usual sights.Should we go with a carnet, The carte orange or the Paris Visite pass for 5 days?

Sorry Im a bit thick and would appreciate clear instructions.

Thanks in advance.

If you are in shape, and have a centrally located hotel, you can get away with walking most places. I was there a month ago for 8 days, staying near Place Saint Mich, and we used 12 metro tickets total (carnet plus 2 individual ones - roughly 133-14 Euros), as well as 2 round-trip tickets to Versailles (5.60 Euros each). Our plan was generally to take the metro to a place (say the Arc de Triomphe) and then slowly walk back to the hotel during the day. That was the cheapest option for us, but know that you need really comfortable shoes for that, or your feet will be very sore!

Given the specific time frame of your visit--from Wednesday through Wednesday you may be best served by CARNETs (packets of 10 reduced-price individual Ticket T%26#39;s--11,10€) and individual RER tickets to and from your arrival airport and a Versailles r.t. ticket.

I use a mobilis card for the days I think I will be using public transport more than 5 times, otherwise I use single tickets and walk. A Zone 1-2 card will cover most the places you want to see, except versailles, for which you just but a normal ticket from wherever you are catching the train.

I believe you can now rent bicycles. There are a number of bicycle %26quot;stations%26quot; around the city.

Thank you everyone. Well Im starting to excercise already in preparation :)
